Yellow Card Partners with Base to Launch 'Based Around the World' Buildathons to Foster Global Innovation

We are thrilled to announce the launch of "Based Around the World," a global series of buildathons aimed at empowering builders to create solutions that address local challenges using on-chain technology. As co-presenters of this initiative, Yellow Card is excited to bring this opportunity to our strong community of innovators across Africa and to developers in India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

What is “Based Around The World?”

The inspiration for "Based Around the World" stems from the global shift towards digital solutions and the unique challenges communities face outside the leading tech hubs. With 74% of on-chain builders residing outside the US, regions like Africa are becoming hotspots for digital innovation, driven by their unique market needs and rapidly growing tech talent.  This buildathon focuses on developing real-world applications and encourages creative solutions that leverage technology to solve local problems. 

Africa is a focal point for this initiative due to its dynamic tech ecosystem and the significant adoption of on-chain technologies. For us at Yellow Card, “Based Africa" aligns with our mission to empower local communities, provide resources, and support the development of solutions that address unique African challenges. As co-presenters, Yellow Card will offer extensive support to participants through thought leadership discussions and workshops, and a Yellow Card representative will be on the judging panel to bring industry expertise to the evaluation process. Through "Based Africa," we aim to spotlight the talented builders driving Africa’s digital future.

Prize: The buildathons, running from 27 September until October 13, will see builders vying for a share of the 100 ETH prize pool, courtesy of Base and Talent Protocol.  Each winner gets:

● Rewards: 3 - 12.5 ETH from Base and $BUILD from Talent Protocol.

● Networking: All winners will be celebrated at a Base meetup event in-region with Jesse Pollak in November. They will also connect with the most prolific base builders in their region and enjoy direct access to the Base team.
